How to enroll in Medicare

Turning 65?

Already on Social Security:

You will automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part A and B. Since, you must pay for Part B, you have the option of turning it down. Social Security will contact you a few months prior to your eligibility with all the information you need.


Enrolling in Social Security and Medicare:

You can enroll three ways:
  1. Call 800-772-1213 three months prior to your birthday. (Monday thru Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., closed on holidays) People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call 800-325-0778.
  2. Enroll online: http://www.socialsecurity.gov
  3. In person at your local social security office.

  5. Marriage dates (if applicable). (If unsure of the exact date you may estimate.)
  6. Divorce dates (if applicable). (If unsure of the exact date you may estimate.)
  7. Spouse (or Ex Spouse) Date or Birth and Birth Place
